Control
Operation of communication adapter ETRANS depends on adapter type ( with or without keyboard and a LCD display ) and on computational power of connected system. Generally speaking the version without keyboard and display can be used with those systems in which the operation ( except primary configuration) can be done from operation panel of control system. The full version can be always used.
Based on above mentioned circumstances the transmission control is provided via three possible ways:
- ETRANS is connected to a control system which can communicate via Heidenhain protocol through serial interface. All operations are provided through operation panel of control system so here is no need to use built in keyboard and display of the ETRANS ( They are need for the configuration only ).
- Control system contains serial interface but permits a no-protocol transmission only. All operations are provided again through operation panel but so called transmission control programs ( pseudoprotocols) must be used. Keyboard and display of ETRANS are for configuration purposes only.

The other cases - for transmission control is necessary to use both operation panel and keyboard/display of ETRANS. The ETRANS design is user friendly that choice of basic function can be done via operating a few adapter’s keys only .
